Provincial Police tightens security following PAD incident in BKK
August 26th, 2008 - 4:08 pm ICT by Amrit RashmisrisethiFollowing the incident in which People’s Alliance for Democracy protestors stormed the National Broadcasting Telelvision (NBT) station compound earlier this morning, the Trat Provincial Police Division has instructed local police officers to tighten security around all government buildings and residence of important figures.
The Commander of the Trat Provincial Police, Pol. Maj. Gen. Piyapol Mokawatthana (ปิยะพล โมกขะวรรธนะ), reveals that he has instructed all local precincts to remain on alert and to deploy security forces following a recent violent PAD protest in Bangkok. The commander reports that his province has yet to experience any PAD political action.
Trat police have established checkpoints along Sukhumvit Road (ถนนสุขุมวิท) to search for weapons and illegal substances. Pol. Maj. Gen. Piyapol adds that so far no specific instructions have been issued to provincial police divisions from the government or the Royal Thai Police central command.
