PPP says it has not yet discussed replacement for PM
September 9th, 2008 - 1:30 pm ICT by Amrit RashmisrisethiDeputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Doctor Surapong Suebwonglee (สุรพงษ์ สืบวงศ์ลี) denied rumors that the parliament will be dissolved ahead of the Constitution Tribunal’s declaration of a verdict on the Prime Minister’s cooking show involvement case. He also affirmed that the People Power Party has not discussed anyone to take Mr. Samak Sundaravej’s place in the event he must step down from his post. Dr. Surapong asked that all parties wait for the verdict from the tribunal.
The deputy PM mentioned that in the event the PM must step down, it is possible for the Parliament to re-elect him to the post of premier. The Deputy Leader of the Pua Paen Din party has already pledged continued support for Mr. Samak reasoning that the coalition government must stay its course.
Deputy Chart Thai leader Somsak Prisananuntakul (สมศักดิ์ ปริศนานันทกุล) stated that his party would meet this afternoon to discuss the matter but commented that the party will hold to its support for the coalition despite the Constitution Tribunal’s verdict.
