The Prime Minister calls a meeting with the Royal Thai Army Commander-in-Chief following Cambodia’s ultimatum for Thai troops to retreat from the conflict area at Preah Vihear.

Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Somchai Wongsawat responded to queries about the Cambodian ultimate issued for Thai troops to leave the controversial overlapping area, stating that he has not yet reviewed the details of Cambodia’s declaration. He stated however that from a short briefing by the Minister of Foriegn Affairs the matter is not a cause for concern.

The government has revealed to Cambodia that it has no qualms over reducing troop numbers if both sides agree to do so to alleviate tensions and evade conflict. It has asked that both sides meet to discuss the details.

The PM nonetheless will meet with relevant officials at 2 PM to discuss a solution to the issue while assuring that the border situation is still normal.
