Parliament meeting ends on low not after over 10 hours of convening
September 1st, 2008 - 11:16 am ICT by Amrit RashmisrisethiOpposition Whip Chairman Sathit Wongnongtaey (สาทิตย์ วงศ์หนองเตย) closed off the over 10 hour long Parliament meeting yesterday, which ended without conclusion, by saying that despite many people being hopeful for the outcome of the meeting the Prime Minister’s denial to address certain issues caused the convening to be a failure.
Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej however later stated that many people entering into meeting had already formed a negative image of him even though he had not yet done anything to create such an image. He said that despite a previous clash between police and demonstrators, he had never ordered the conflict and is still holding to the democratic process.
The PM stated that the proposal of a 70-30 system government was not acceptable and criticized that his attempt to hold onto democracy was viewed as negative while the protest has sought to disrespect many citizens. House Speaker Chai Chidchob (ชัย ชิดชอบ) closed the meeting at 00:45 of this morning at a total time of 11 hours and 20 minutes.
