July 24th, 2008 - 12:23 pm ICT by Amrit Rashmisrisethi
Leader of the People’s Power for Democracy (PAD) Sondhi Limthongkul (สนธิ ลิ้มทองกุล), his lawyer, and PAD protestors travel from Makkhawan Rangsan Bridge to the office of the Metropolitan Police Bureau to turn himself in following his arrest warrant issued on grounds of lèse majesté.
Mr Sondhi brings asset of 300,000 baht as bail. His lawyer, Suwat Apaisak (สุวัตร อภัยภักดิ์), says Mr Sondhi denies all allegations against him and affirms he cited the remark of Daranee Charncharngsilpakul (ดารณี ชาญเชิงศิลปกุล) who was earlier arrested on grounds of lèse majesté to inform people of what was going on in the society. The lawyer also says his client had no intention to criticize the monarch.
Mr Suwat says Mr Sondhi believes that the People Power party is behind his arrest and expresses confidence that the court will approve his bail request as he will not escape.
