Opposition Whip agrees with extension of Constitutional Amendment study
August 19th, 2008 - 3:57 pm ICT by Amrit Rashmisrisethi ( Leave a comment )Opposition Whip Chairman Sathit Wongnhongtoei (สาทิตย์ วงศ์หนองเตย) agrees to extend the study period of the 2007 constitution for 30 days, adding that the extension would allow the ad hoc committee to study amendments and enforcements of the charter thoroughly.
Mr. Sathit says the Opposition has closely followed the constitutional amendment process and observed the work of the Special Committee on Constitutional Amendements formed by the House of Representatives.
In response to the Government’s decision to enforce monetary regulations, Mr. Sathit says the President of the House of Representatives must seriously take the matter into account, adding that the president may be impeached if found to be violating laws.
In terms of the People Power Party dissolution case, Mr. Sathit is convinced that an ill-intentioned political group is trying to convince the public that the Election Commission (EC) and the court will definitely dissolve the People Power Party. He said the group is attempting to put pressure on the EC and the court.
