The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) yesterday approved 3 draft bills that can effectively allow state operated universities to gain full autonomy. Deputy Chief of the NLA Pojani Tonwaranich (พจนีย์ ธนวรานิช) affirmed that the NLA’s decision is constitutional and also followed all required protocols.
Miss Pojani also reiterated that the NLA took the matter very seriously and did not rush the passing of the bills as many parties may have been concerned. The meeting voted 134 in favor to 6 concerning the independent status of King Mongkut Institute of Technology Ladkrabang. 138 votes were in favor to 6 for the change of status of Chiang Mai University and the NLA mulled over the issue of Chulalongkorn University for over 2 hours before voting 134 to 6.
