New energy minister urged to continue alternative energy projectsSeptember 25th, 2008 - 2:36 pm ICT by Amrit Rashmisrisethi
Oil entrepreneurs call for a continuation of compensating and alternative energy projects from Energy Minister Wannarat Charnnukul (วรรณรัตน์ ชาญนุกูล). The energies include gasohol E10 and E20, which have a potential to become the country’s major energies whilst E85 should be promoted as an alternative energy.
The President of Bangchak Petroleum Public Company Limited, Mr. Anusorn Saengnimnuan (อนุสรณ์ แสงนิ่มนวล), urges the new Government to improve procedures, especially the promotion of gasohol E85, E10 and E20. In terms of pricing structure adjustment of LPG, he says energy entrepreneurs still wait and see the new Government’s policies toward the matter. He suggests LPG prices should be escalated; otherwise, LPG importers will be burdened with price differences.
Mr. Anusorn says costs of oil refinery as of 2009 may slump as scores of new oil refiners emerged in Asian oil markets such as China and India, adding that oil refinery prices may be lowered USD 2-3 a barrel in the future.
In terms of 15-year master plan of alternative energy promotion, Mr. Anusorn urges the Government to carry out the scheme and place it into practice, which can be enforced in every Government in the future. He suggests the Government should expedite a feasibility study of establishing a nuclear power plant, adding that prior to do so, the Government should allow public participation to help support the plan as well.
