Spokesman of the National Police, Police Major General Watcharapol Prasanratchakij (วัชรพล ประสานราชกิจ) commented on violence in the 3 Southern Border Provinces, saying that the situation has improved steadily with less and less violence occurring. He reported that in July of this year, only 62 incidents were recorded, compared to 177 incidents during the same month last year. He credited increased confidence amongst locals for authorities as a main reason. The spokesman continued to say that promotions would be given to over 1000 policemen working in the south, and many members of the new graduating class of police would be sent to aid the South.
Police Major General Watcharapol also revealed that the National Police Commander has requested the Prime Minister to allow the government to approve increased budgeting for scientific equipment and body armor for southern police.
