Narathiwat blast insurgent message to Army CommanderAugust 26th, 2008 - 4:12 pm ICT by Amrit Rashmisrisethi
A recent deadly bombing of a school in Takbai district of Narathiwat province caused minor injuries to six local military officers who were guarding students and teachers at a local school. It was reported that the blast was meant as an insurgent challenge for Army Commander General Anupong Paojinda (อนุพงษ์ เผ่าจินดา) who recently arrived in the province to inspect the southern unrest situation.
The hidden bomb was planted close to the school’s fence and was detonated by a mobile phone while military forces were standing guard nearby. Teachers and students became petrified with fear after the deadly blast.
General Anupong and his team arrived in Narathiwat province at 07.00 o’clock yesterday (August 25th) and held a meeting with local police officers and administrative officials at a meeting hall in Chulaporn Military camp.
The meeting focused on the working performance of local officers and stressed the national security scheme in an attempt to improve the situations in the deep South of Thailand.
According to the meeting, local officers were ordered to bolster security during the Ramadan rite of Muslim communities in September. Situations in the Southern parts of Thailand from last August 2008 were reviewed as well.
