Lopburi joins hands with RID to deal with flood problem
September 18th, 2008 - 11:17 am ICT by Amrit RashmisrisethiGovernor of Lopburi province Jarupong Poldet (จารุพงศ์ พลเดช) said that there are 2 districts which are currently still at risk including the provinces Muang district. Other areas however are experiencing a gradual drop in water levels.
Mr. Jarupong attributed the recent flooding to heavy rains that took place last week as well as high levels of flowing water from other areas. The Royal Irrigation Department has estimated the inflow of water to Lopburi at 400 million square meters. The province has joined hands with department to open drainage systems to alleviate water into resorvoirs which still have 50% holding capacity left. Officials and authorities of the province have met to prepare to deal with the situation after water levels drop.
As for assistance to citizens, the governor that some 80,000 citizens in 23,565 households have been affected, prompting the province to use 72 flat bottom boats and 47 water pumps to aid them. Some 15,000 sand bags have been prepared to aid residents along with 4,000 medical kits. 13 temporary residence tents have also been erected along with 20,000 aid kits.
