Laos optimistic about Thai investmentsSeptember 11th, 2008 - 2:25 pm ICT by Amrit Rashmisrisethi
Thai Ambassador to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic Wiboon Khusakul (วิบูลย์ คูสกุล) says Laos is still optimistic about Thai investment in Laos despite Thailand’s political problems at present.
The ambassador says Laos is fully open for foreign investments, resulting in five foreign commercial banks in the country with the total investment of 1.3 billion USD. The banks have contributed to circulating money of more than 60 billion baht. He says further that Thailand holds the highest investment in hydro electricity power plants, restaurants, hotels, and other service businesses in Laos.
The ambassador says the Thai business council in Laos still wants quality businessmen and well-established companies to invest in Laos to help alleviate the country’s problem of trade instability. As for Thailand’s political unrest, Mr Wiboon says it has a slight effect on the Lao tourism.
