ISOC Region 4 bolster security along rail linesSeptember 13th, 2008 - 1:06 pm ICT by Amrit Rashmisrisethi
The Director of the Information Operations Center for the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4, Col. Akara Thiprote (อัคร ทิพโรจน์), reports that residents of the southern border provinces are happy to see the southern railway reopen for service today (September 13), due to the importance of rail travel in the southern region.
Col. Akara admits that the State Railway of Thailand’s 2 week suspension of service on the southern rail line caused considerable burden for southern residents and affected local trade. Therefore in order to ensure the security of rail lines to allow for continuous rail operations in the southern provinces, the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 will be deploying ground and air patrols for full coverage along railway tracks.
Authorities will be focusing on the Sughai-Kolok-Hat Yai route (สุไหงโก-ลก ถึง หาดใหญ่) where insurgent activities is most prevalent. The Internal Security Operations Command is also training volunteers to aid armed security forces in monitoring rail lines.
