Inundation won’t impact rice exports

September 24th, 2008 - 9:30 am ICT by Amrit Rashmisrisethi

President of Thai Rice Exporters Association Chukirt Ophatwongse (ชูเกียรติ โอภาสวงศ์) indicates inundation won’t impact sale volume of rice export as only small number of rice paddies were affected by flooding conditions.

Mr. Chukirt says the association needs one more month to evaluate and conclude further impacts. He says rice paddies located on lower lands may get serious impacts while the paddies on higher lands may be otherwise.

Despite ongoing deluge, Mr. Chukirt says rice saplings will be able to be under water for two weeks. He says most flooding won’t result in stagnant water; therefore, only small amount of rice fields are affected, adding that the products after harvest season won’t impact sales volume next year.
