Internal Trade tackles low price of raw palmsSeptember 13th, 2008 - 1:01 pm ICT by Amrit Rashmisrisethi
Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade Yanyong Puangrach (ยรรยง พวงราช) says he will call a meeting on September 16th to assess the raw plam price situation and find solution to the problem of low raw palm prices.
Mr. Yanyong says palm farmers have been seriously affected by the raw palm price which has decreased from 5-6 baht per kilogram to less than 4 baht per kilogram. The director-general says he is concerned that if the price keeps dropping, farmers will lose more profits.
The meeting will not discuss issues about the palm oil and will not pressure oil producers to decrease the price of palm oil bottles following the decreasing price of raw palms, the director-general says. Mr Yanyong explains that a palm oil price decrease may lower the price of raw palms and affect farmers’ profit margins further.
