Interim PM calls meeting to deal with flooding condition throughout nationSeptember 15th, 2008 - 11:00 am ICT by Amrit Rashmisrisethi
Caretaker Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawas (สมชาย วงศ์สวัสดิ์) indicated that at 4 PM today he will call a meeting of agencies such as the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, the Royal Irrigation Department, the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. The meeting will seek to set a framework for remedying the flood situation in various regions, especially in the North. The interim PM is also scheduled to travel to the affected areas to inspect conditions.
The inundation situation in many provinces is still at concerning levels, especially in Lopburi province which is experiencing it’s worst flooding in over a decade. Some districts of Lopburi have seen water levels of over 2 meters with potential to expand to more villages. Many residents of the province have been trapped in their homes due to the flooding.
