Inflation decreases due to govt.’s assistance packageSeptember 1st, 2008 - 3:09 pm ICT by Amrit Rashmisrisethi
The inflation rate of August this year has reportedly dropped by 3% due to the government’s 6-month package to assist low-income people. However, the inflation rate of August is higher than the same period of last year by 6.7%.
The government’s assistance package also contributed to August’s 3%-drop in consumer price index when compared to July but it is lower than the same month of last year. Permanent Secretary for Commerce Siripol Yodmuangcharoen says an increase in expressway and bus fares will lead to the rise of consumer price index to grow by 0.19%. However, he says the inflation rate for the rests of the months of this year will remain at 5% – 5.5% depending on the oil price situation and the exchange rate.
