311 illegal lumbers worth about 16.4 million baht were confiscated by the officials from the Royal Forest Department and the Royal Thai Police together with the local administrative officials. They were hidden in a warehouse in Buddhamonthon district of Nakhon Pathom province. Officials reported that the lumbers were expected to be smuggled overseas prior to the confiscation.
The Social Development and Human Security Minister, Ms. Anongwan Thepsuthin, said the seized lumbers will now be stored at the checkpoint in Nakhon Chaisi district in Nakhon Pathom. She said officials have recently arrested more lumber smugglers, causing the offenders to find other subtle ways to smuggle them to foreign countries. She said her ministry will call a meeting with relevant units to expedite 41 pending cases relating to lumber smuggling. She said the ministry is cooperating with various agencies, such as the Royal Thai Police and the Royal Thai Air Force, in suppressing illegal lumber trading more seriously.
