House Speaker: PM meeting with Privy Councilor will inspire improved national situation
September 30th, 2008 - 3:29 pm ICT by Amrit RashmisrisethiThe House Speaker has expressed his belief that a meeting between the Prime Minister and the Privy Councilor should help salvage the political impasse.
House Speaker Chai Chidchob (ชัย ชิดชอบ) stated that proposals to form a third generation Constitution Drafting Assembly or an independent body to amend the Constitution would be viable on both counts. He reminded however that ultimately the matter would become a parliamentary issue and expressed his view that any attempt to amend the constitution should be agreed upon by citizens throughout the country. The House Speaker suggested that all provinces collect suggestions on the matter and submit them to the parliament while affirming such an idea would not cause disunity.
Mr. Chai said that the new Prime Minister is a comprising individual and voiced confidence that once the premier meets with Privy Councilor and national hero General Prem Tinsulanont the nation’s situation will improve. He attributed his idea to the fact that the privy councilor is a highly revered member of society.
Opposition Whip Chairman Sathit Wongnhongtoei (สาทิตย์ วงศ์หนองเตย) has suggested that both a CDA and an independent body be formed to amend the constitution so that all members of the public may be pleased.
