HM the Queen to observe ceremony to invite Rice Goddess to rice fields
August 9th, 2008 - 9:50 am ICT by Amrit Rashmisrisethi ( Leave a comment )Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand will travel to Ang Thong province today (August 9th) to observe a ceremony to invite Rice Goddess to rice fields. The ceremony is organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to honor Her Majesty and conserve Thai tradition.
Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Somsak Prissananthakul (สมศักดิ์ ปริศนานันทกุล) says the ceremony will be held today afternoon to honor HM the Queen who always has great generosity for Thai farmers. The ceremony will take place at a demonstration farm under the royal initiatives at Tambon Si Bua Thong, Sawaeng Ha district, Ang Thong.
The ceremony will show rice cultures and traditions from all regions of the country and have a rite to worship Rice Goddess. There have been more than 30 years since the country last held this ceremony in 1961 at Chitralada Palace.
The ceremony is expected to educate people about the whole rice system and cultivate pride in Thai rice among Thai people and farmers. Most importantly, the ceremony will make Thai people cherish their motherland and the rice farming occupation.
