Suspected insurgents with assault weaponry fired upon a security post in Yala province late last night.
Authorities report that insurgency in the southern provinces continue unabated, with the latest round of violence occurring in Banchu village (บ้านบาจู), Yaha (ยะหา) district, of Yala province late last night (August 4). Officials reveal that at least 5 insurgents attacked the village’s security post, where a number of volunteer village guards were stationed. The attack sparked an exchange of gunfire between the two sides for more than 5 minutes, before insurgents were forced to retreat.
Investigators from the 45th Yala Forensic Science Division who arrived at the scene this morning (August 5) said that insurgents were armed with AK-47s and M16 assault rifles. No injuries or fatalities were reported during last night’s battle.
