Flood situation in Nakhon Phanom
August 18th, 2008 - 4:46 pm ICT by Amrit RashmisrisethiThe water level of Mekong River today (August, 18th) today remained at 12.63 meters, lower than yesterday by three centimeters as rain has stopped falling for many days.
Agricultural areas and residences in 12 districts of Nakhon Pahnom have been damaged by the flood condition. More than 150,000 people have been affected and two have died. Nakhon Phanom Governor Bunsanong Bunmee (บุญสนอง บุญมี) and Chairwoman of the Provincial Red Cross Chapter of Nakhon Phanom Amphornphen Bunmee (อัมพรเพ็ญ บุญมี) have traveled to the flooded areas to distribute supplies and money to the affected people.
Other units which are assisting the flood-affected include the provincial disaster prevention and mitigation, the navy, the provincial irrigation office, the provincial livestock office, and the provincial public health office. The authorities report that the flood situation will return to normal in one week if rain does not occur and that the water level of Mekong River remains stable.
