Federation of Thai Industries President supports MD Surapong or Mr. Somchai as new PM

The President of the Federation of Thai Industries, Mr. Santi Vilassakdanont (สันติ วิลาสศักดานนท์), reveals that he is relieved that Mr. Samak Sundaravej (สมัคร สุนทรเวช) chose to withdraw from the Prime Minister election. Mr. Santi views that Mr. Samak is too rigid in his stance, causing much concern in the private sector.
The FTI President believes that People Power Party Secretary-General MD Surapong Suebwongree (สุรพงษ์ สืบวงศ์ลี ), or People Power Party deputy leader Somchai Songsawat (สมชาย วงศ์สวัสดิ์ ) would be better suited to become Prime Minister due to their reconciliatory stance. Mr. Santi said that the two politicians would likely be capable of negotiating with the People’s Alliance for Democracy to end Thailand’s political standoff.
The FTI President adds that the government should expedite the revocation of the Emergency Decree in order to renew investors’ confidence in Thailand. He is confident that police and military forces will be able to prevent confrontations between People’s Alliance for Democracy and Democratic Alliance Against Dictatorship demonstrators.
