BRUSSELS (BNO NEWS) — European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek on Monday expressed his ‘grave concern’ about the recent escalation of violence in Thailand, leaving dozens of people dead.

“”I condemn the violent clashes and shooting between protesters and military forces as well as urge dialogue between the sides involved and stress the need for a negotiated solution to the current stand-off,” said Buzek. “I call on all sides to refrain from further violence. On behalf of the European Parliament, I express deep condolences to the families of the victims.”

Buzek said the European Parliament will debate and vote on a resolution on the situation in Thailand on Thursday in Strasbourg.

“Dialogue should lead Thailand back towards national reconciliation in full respect for the rule of law and democratic principles,” Buzek said. “This is an important element for both regional stability and bilateral relations with the European Union.”
