EC to review PPP dissolution case on August 19th
August 15th, 2008 - 2:36 pm ICT by Amrit RashmisrisethiElection Commissioner Sumeth Ubanisakorn (สุเมธ อุปนิสากร) says the Election Commission’s (EC) subcommittee responsible for the dissolution case of the People Power party (PPP) has submitted results of the investigation to EC Chairman Apichart Sukhagganond (อภิชาต สุขัคคานนท์).
Mr Sumeth says further that the chairman will submit the investigation results to all election commissioners during EC’s meeting on August 19th. However, he says it depends on whether the meeting will forward the case to the Constitutional Court. He affirms EC will stick to criteria used with the dissolution cases of the Chart Thai and the Matchima Thipataya parties.
The election commissioner says MPs of the People Power party can move to the newly-established Puea Thai (เพื่อไทย) party within 60 days if the People Power party is disbanded. As for the request for amendments to election-related laws to harden the establishment of a new political party, Mr Sumeth says EC has no mandate to amend laws.
