Deputy Prime Minister General Chawalit Yongjaiyuth has admitted that his return to politics is to aid in rectifying the nation’s situation.
Deputy Prime Minister General Chawalit Yongjaiyuth (ชวลิต ยงใจยุทธ) revealed today in an interview that his acceptance of the post in Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat’s administration was due to the PM’s urging for him to aid in resolving the nation’s ongoing conflict. General Chawalit was modest in his reasoning, saying that he was not of any special capability but was ready to tackle the nation’s many issues such as poverty and southern unrest. Asked whether he would be negotiating with the People’s Alliance for Democracy General Chawalit said he would not yet comment on the matter but did remind that he has spoken to the PAD whether directly or through the media.
General Chawalit said that assisting the nation for only one day is already a worthwhile cause. Nonetheless, as the government begins its second day of duty at Don Muang Airport, Deputy Prime Minister Olarn Chaiprawat (โอฬาร ไชยประวัติ) has been the first to arrive.
