DPM believes SET index increase not due to news of former PM’s seeking political asylum
August 11th, 2008 - 3:32 pm ICT by Amrit RashmisrisethiThe Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, MD. Surapong Suebwonglee (์สุรพงษ์ สืบวงศ์ล), believes that the SET index’s current increase is not related to news of the former Prime Minister’s appeal for political asylum.
MD Surapong said that the Stock Exchange of Thailand index has skyrocketed since last week. He said that stock analysts reported that the index increase was due to reductions in global oil price, and not due to news that former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra (ทักษิณ ชินวัตร), and Khunying Potjaman Shinawatra (พจมาน ชินวัตร) may be seeking political asylum abroad.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that the matter in which the Securities and Exchange Commission appointed 3 people, including Mr. Nibhat Bhukkanasut (นิพัทธ พุกกะณะสุต), as executive members of the Stock Exchange of Thailand Committee was entirely up to the SEC, as Mr. Nibhat was an honorary member of the SET selection committee.
