Deputy Spokesman of the Prime Ministers Office affirms emergency decree necessary
September 2nd, 2008 - 11:50 am ICT by Amrit RashmisrisethiDeputy Spokesman of the Prime Minister’s Office Nuttawut Saikua (ณัฐวุฒิ ไสยเกื้อ) stated the necessity of the Emergency Decree as it is needed to control the escalating situation in the nation. He affirmed that the decree would not impact the normal lives of citizens and is focused towards the gatherings at the Government House, Sanam Luang and Ratchadamnoen road.
Latest reports have shown that the Democratic Alliance Against Dictatorship (DAAD) has begun to disperse while the People’s Alliance for Democracy has shown no signs of further action. The Army Commander has been entrusted to decipher the best course of action.
The deputy spokesman stated that if the PAD wishes to continue its rally, it may be able to do so by leaving Bangkok, but it may be impeded by the fact its 9 leaders currently have arrest warrants in effect.
Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej is closely following the situation from the Metropolitan Police Headquarters and stated that the resolution of the situation must follow the proper legal protocols. He said that he did not wish to use the emergency decree but it was necessary following the escalation of the situation.
