Deputy Minister of Public Health attended aerobics contestAugust 2nd, 2008 - 9:07 am ICT by Amrit Rashmisrisethi
The Deputy Minister of Public Health, Mr. Vicharn Minchainant, presided over the opening of the aerobics competition, aimed at promoting good health for people in Bangkok and vicinities.
Mr. Vicharn says the objective of this aerobics competition is to encourage people to exercise more regularly, so they would be strong and be immune to various diseases such as high-blood pressure, diabetes, heart diseases and cancer.
The Deputy Minister of Public Health indicates that in 2002, many activities and campaigns were held to urge people to exercise and engage in aerobics, and Thailand claimed a new world record for the largest-ever aerobics work-out after nearly 47,000 people in Sanam Luang in the same year. However, not many people in the capital have continued to exercise regularly since then, causing their health to deteriorate.
Mr. Vicharn says the Ministry of Public Health together with relevant units, including the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, will campaign for people nationwide to join the aerobics work-out in Sanam Luang this December.
