Democrat urges govt. to use laws to prevent CNG gas tank explosionAugust 9th, 2008 - 12:53 pm ICT by Amrit Rashmisrisethi
The Democrat party asks the government to issue legal measures to control vehicles adjusted to use compressed natural gas (CNG) to prevent the gas tank explosion.
Deputy leader of the Democrat party and Shadow Energy Minister, Jurin Raksanavisit (จุรินทร์ ลักษณวิศิษฎ์), says he wants the government to urgently prevent damages caused by CNG engine conversion which is mostly below standard as seen by twice explosions during the first half of this year. The latest incident took place yesterday (August, 8th).
Mr Jurin also requests the government to quickly inspect garages which provide engine conversion services to see whether they meet standards and are approved by the Department of Land Transport. He says there are only 114 garages which are accredited. He also calls on the government to impose measures to prevent the illegal installation of second-hand and used CNG tanks.
As for CNG vehicles which refuse to have a check-up, the shadow energy minister says major CNG traders such as PTT should not sell the gas to them before they are thoroughly checked.
