Court rejects request for revocation of arrest warrants against PAD leaders

August 30th, 2008 - 9:50 am ICT by Amrit Rashmisrisethi -

The Criminal Court rejects a request for the revocation of arrest warrants against nine leaders of the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD).

According the court’s announcement, the arrest warrants were issued to bring the nine anti-government group key members for investigation and all sides have the right to submit their evidences to the court to defend themselves. The court said that the nine leaders’ refusal to leave the Government House had prompted it to reject the request.

The arrest warrants were sought by police for the nine PAD leaders following the group’s seizure of many government places including the Government House and the National Broadcasting Services of Thailand (NBT).

The lawyer of PAD Suwat Aphaiphak (สุวัตร อภัยภักดิ์) says he will appeal against the court’s order on September 1st.
