CNG engine conversion registration period extended to August 15thAugust 5th, 2008 - 10:53 am ICT by Amrit Rashmisrisethi
The Department of Land Transport has announced an extension period for motorists to advise the Department concerning the modification of vehicle engines. The Department said that the extension of the registration of compressed natural gas (CNG) engine conversion is until August 15th this year. The move came after officials learnt that there are only 400,000 registered vehicles adjusted nationwide. There are as many as one million CNG vehicles or natural gas vehicles (NGVs) running on the roads.
Caretaker Director-General of the Department of Land Transport, Chairat Sa-nguansue (ชัยรัตน์ สงวนชื่อ), says more and more motorists have informed the department of their engine conversion during the last two weeks which have seen about 33,000 registered NGVs or more than 2,000 a day. Personal cars can receive the CNG engine conversion services from the department from today to August 15th, Monday - Saturday, 08.00 – 19.00 hrs., the director-general says.
Mr Chairat says the department strictly prohibits motorcycles from installing a CNG tank as the vehicles have the high possibility to have accidents and the tank may leak easily.
