Cabinet approves budget for new highways
December 19th, 2007 - 9:20 am ICT by adminBangkok, December 19, 2007 (PRD), Spokesman for the Office of the Prime Minister Chaiya Yimwilai (ไชยา ยิ้มวิไล) has revealed that the Cabinet has approved the allotment of budget to be used in constructing a highway between Bang-Pli and Suksawasd (บางพลี - สุขสวัสดิ์)roads. The budget will also pertain to a extensions to the outer ring road surrounding Bangkok.
The Cabinet has allowed for 18.397 billion baht to be used by the Express and Rapid Transit Authority (ETA) to fund the new highway projects. The Ministry of Finance will be in charge of handling the matter and decided on the source of loans for the project. The project will require that the Ministry of Finance establish up to 2 billion baht in funding for the initial payment as well as to cover interest costs.
The Cabinet also approved over 8 billion baht to be used in maintenance to existing highways and the addition of more toll points.
