British ambassador to Thailand, Mr. Quinton Quayle, viewed the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD)’s on going protests against the Thai government as normal in democracy, suggesting Thailand’s politcial situation is improving, especially after the government decided to life emergency decree.
Mr. Quinton Mark Quayle, ambassador of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland to Thailand, made a courtsy call on Prime Minister Mr. Somchai Wongsawat to congratulate the Thai leader upon his appointment as the new Thai premier.
Mr. Quayle told reporters after the meeting with Mr. Somchai that both Thailand and the United Kingdom have had good bilateral long term relationships. In addition, both nations are democratic.
Commenting on the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD)’s on going protests against the government, Mr. Quayle said that everybody had rights to express his views.
He suggested, however, that the PAD should adopt peaceful means of protesting to avoid violence in order to prevent bloodshed which would cause panic among foreign tourists.
The British ambassador expressed willingness that the Thai government has lifted emergency decree, adding that political situation in Thailand was improving.
He added he raised no issue regarding former premier Thaksin Shinnawatra with Mr. Somchai.
