Brtain’s Daily Mirror affirmed former premier Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra and his wife, Khunying Pojaman, has sought asylum in Britain.
Britain’s Daily Mirror reported today (October 6) that Britain’s Home Office has confirmed that deposed prime minister and former owner of Manchester City Football Club Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra and his wife, Khunying Potjaman, have applied to seek political asylum and stay in Britain.
The ousted premier and his wife fled to Britain in August after skipping bail and failing to report for hearings on their corruption charges, prompting the Thai authority to issue them arrest warrants.
Thailand’s Supreme Court Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions has issued five arrest warrants against Mr. Thaksin and three warrants against Khunying Pojaman. They included:
The first warrants against both Mr. Thaksin and Khunying Pojaman involved Ratchada land’s deal worth 772 million baht. The warrants were later revoked after both persons returned from London and reported to the supreme court.
The second warrants were against both Mr. Thaksin and his wife on Rathada land’s deal after both of them fled to England and failed to show up to the Thai court in August, which was followed by the third warrants.
Mr. Thaksin’s fourth warrant related to Export-Import Bank of Thailand’s being instructed by Mr. Thaksin, the then prime minister, to extend four billion baht soft loan to Myanmar to benefit his former business.
And the fifth warrant involved with digit lottery case.
