A bomb exploded in Pattani province earlier this morning, resulting in injuries to two soldiers who were part of a security unit guarding a school.
Authorities are currently investigating the crime scene and are conducting searches of local areas. Investigators have determined that the explosive used in the attack was a 5 kilogram bomb filled with metal scraps, which was buried adjacent to a railroad track behind the Than Yong Limor (มัสยิดตันหยงลิมอ) Mosque in Panare (ปะนาเระ) of Pattani province.
An 8 man patrol of the 38th Narathiwat Special Task Force who were guarding a nearby school were conducting reconnaissance in the area when insurgents detonated the bomb. Following the explosion, Corporal Ranachai Boonthai (รณชัย บุญไทย), and Pvt. Dolloh Mhanden (ดลเลาะห์ หมานเดน) were found to have been injured by bomb shrapnel. Both soldiers were transported to a local hospital and their condition is reportedly stable.
