BMTA affirms continuous operations despite demonstrations
September 3rd, 2008 - 1:24 pm ICT by Amrit RashmisrisethiThe Director of the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA), Mr. Pinet Puapattanakul (พิเณศวร์ พัวพัฒนกุล ), affirms that all BMTA vehicles in all districts will continue to provide public transportation services to citizens as usual. The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority Union has no plans to cease operations to pressure the government, nor will it allow its employees to join People’s Alliance for Democracy demonstrations.
Mr. Pinet said that the BMTA will continue to provide public transportation services, unless extremely violent political incidents occurred. Some BMTA routes may experience delays due to the need to detour around demonstration areas, such as those around Government House and Ratchadamnoen (ราชดำเนิน) Road.
Meanwhile the Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) will also continue to operate, with PAT Director Mrs. Sunida Sakulrattana (สุนิดา สกุลรัตนะ) affirming that no ports in Bangkok or other provinces will be closed.
