BMA Permanent Secretary affirms BKK elections will proceed
September 3rd, 2008 - 3:32 pm ICT by Amrit RashmisrisethiThe Permanent Secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Dr. Pongsak Semsan (พงศ์ศักติฐ์ เสมสันต์ ), reveals that a meeting between Bangkok officials, Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej, and the Army Commander in Chief took place today in response to implementation of the Emergency Decree on September 2.
Officials discussed security policies as well as the upcoming Bangkok Governor’s elections. Dr. Pongsak said that candidate registration will remain open until September 5, while the elections themselves will proceed as scheduled on October 5, 2008. The BMA Permanent Secretary said that the Bangkok elections have been organized according to legal processes, and candidates will be allowed to conduct their campaign normally, despite the ongoing political crisis.
Dr. Pongsak cautioned governor candidates to refrain from creating conflict or dissent among voters due to the fragile situation in the nation.
