Beijing Paralympic Games 2008 come to a close with Thailand in 41st ranking

The Beijing Paralympic Games 2008 came to a close yesterday by handing the torch over to 2010 host, the United Kingdom. The final day of the games wrapped up with 8 final gold medal competitions and a grand closing event. Thailand did not compete in the final 8 events but nonetheless achieved the 41st ranking in the medals pool with 1 gold, 5 silver and 7 copper medals.

The National Sports Development Fund will award 2 million baht per gold medal, 1 million per silver medal and 500,000 baht per copper medal to Thailand’s athletes bringing this year’s total to 20,500,000 baht. All coaches and trainers will receive 10% of their athlete’s rewards while the Thai Disabled Athletes Association will receive 15% totaling 5,125,000 baht to make a total sum donated by the fund 25,625,000 baht. Thai Wheelchair Racing ace Prawat Wahorum will receive 5,500,000 baht for his ability to take 1 gold, 3 silver and 1 copper during the games.
