Bangkok EC affirms Governor election to take place on October 5th

September 5th, 2008 - 10:28 am ICT by Amrit Rashmisrisethi -

Chairman of the Bangkok Election Commission (EC) Pink Rungsamai (พิงค์ รุ่งสมัย) affirmed that the capital will hold its election for Governor on the 5th of October despite the current issuance of an Emergency Decree. He stated that all candidates have been briefed on campaign conduct under the decree, which is generally unrestricted except for public speeches.

All candidates have been called to gather and rehearse their campaign tactics on the 12th of September to insure orderliness. However, if any runners wish to hold a speech they may submit a request to the Royal Thai Army Commander.

The EC Chairman denied that familiarity would play a large role in the election, saying that funding and support would probably have more impact on the outcome.
