At least three dead in Thai apartment blast
October 5th, 2010 - 11:28 pm ICT by BNO NewsBANGKOK, THAILAND (BNO NEWS) — At least three people were killed and 10 were wounded on Tuesday after an explosion rocked an apartment building in Thailand’s Northaburi Province, officials said.
The explosion occurred in the second story of a 5-story building called Shamarn Metta Mansion in Thipsuwan village located in the Bang Bua district in the outskirts of Bangkok, at around 6 p.m. local time.
The Emergency Medical Institute said three people died at the scene while four seriously injured people were transported to nearby hospitals
Local authorities arrived at the scene and are currently investigating the cause of the explosion. They are also examining whether possible victims are trapped under the rubble, but they are being cautious because it is still unknown if other explosive devices are present.
The occupants of the apartment in which the explosion occurred reportedly had a vehicle registered in the Narathiwat province, which is part of the southern region of the country that has faced violent unrest, killing many in the past six years.
Anti-government protests in Bangkok, which led to political violence that killed 91 people and wounded nearly 2,000 recently descended, but in the past weeks, several blasts have shaken the city.
