The Army Commander in Chief, Gen. Anupong Phaochinda (อนุพงษ์ เผ่าจินดา) is currently meeting with relevant officials to assess the nation’s current political situation, following his appointment to Commander of Emergency Decree forces within the Bangkok Metropoiltan area.
The current atmosphere within the Royal Thai Army headquarters remains normal, with 1 company of troops from the 11th Ranger Division keeping a 24 hour vigil around the compound’s perimeter. Gen. Anupong arrived at the headquarters building earlier today (September 3) to meet with high ranking military officers.
It is believed that the army is currently assessing demonstrations by the People’s Alliance for Democracy, who are still assembled in front of Government House. Gen. Anupong recently affirmed that he would use a peaceful approach to the nation’s political situation, and would be open to negotiations.
