Army Chief calls for withdrawal of Emergency DecreeSeptember 11th, 2008 - 2:41 pm ICT by Amrit Rashmisrisethi
Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army, Gen.Anupong Paochinda, calls on the government to withdraw Emergency Decree and voices support for a formation of National Government to tackle the ongoing political crisis.
The army chief says he thinks Emergency Decree should be lifted as the situation has improved and he has already suggested the idea to Caretaker Prime Minister and Education Minister Somchai Wongsawat. Gen.Anupong says he belives that the general laws can control the situation and the police can cooperate with the army if violence occurs.
Gen.Anupong also says National Government is the best solution to the political problems at present although it may not be easy to tak place. He requests politicians to work together to end the crisis and make sacifices for the country. Regarding the qualifications of a new premier, the army chief says he should be able to make things better and eradicate political conflicts.
