Academic urges media to act constructively for society

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kritaya Archavanitkul, the Deputy Director of the Institute for Population and Social Research at Mahidol University, says the media plays a key role in creating understanding and awareness in the Thai society, adding that violence in families and sexual violence are not personal issues but social problems.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kritaya says the media is one of the important mechanisms that can stimulate sexual aggression in the society. She says the media has to take the rights of the victims, especially youths, into great consideration when presenting news about sexual violence. Moreover, she says the media should avoid presenting news that could promote violence repeatedly.
