Foreign Affairs Ministry awaiting information from Supreme Court to seek extradition of former PM
August 13th, 2008 - 11:46 am ICT by Amrit Rashmisrisethi
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Veerasak Futrakul (วีระศักดิ์ ฟูตระกูล) revealed that the ministry has submitted a memo to the Supre Court’s Division for crimes involving individuals holding political roles requesting details of warrants for former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his wife Khunying Potjaman. Both defendants in the Ratchada land purchase case have been issued warrants for their failure to attend a court date.
Mr. Veerasak stated that once the Supreme Court replies to the memo, the matter will be passed on to the Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs to decide whether or not Doctor Thaksin and his wife should have their red book diplomatic passports revoked.
Mr. Veerasak indicated that the matter will later be forwarded to the Thai Embassy in London so they may collaborate with the United Kingdom’s interior ministry and begin the process of extradition.
