July 5, (THAINDIAN NEWS) When America was busy celebrating it’s Independence Day, Wikipedia, the popular free encyclopaedia of Wikimedia Foundation’s data center was down for about one hour. The users faced much difficulty in accessing information from their reliable database. The reason cited for this difficulty later was the power outage in the headquarter in Florida.

The Wikipedia site had been offline since 10:15 a.m. and when the user tried to connect to their information site they got the message as “Sorry! The site is experiencing technical difficulties” and then the users were asked to try waiting for few minutes as the information was being reloading. They either got a blank page or a reloading signal from this reputed site.

Reportedly, just few hours later both the iTunes store and You Tube were also hacked, but later restored. The Wikipedia at first stated in the reputed social networking site that they were trying to find out the problem as they were aware that the site was not working. However after an hour or so, the website organization updated their statement as they have figured out the problems and it was the power “outage” in the Florida data center and the site was slowly coming back online.

The free encyclopaedia Wikipedia last faced a major problem of inaccessible server in March. The reason was overheated European data-center which forced Wikimedia to use backups in Florida. The power failure led to much difficulty as Wikipedia where people contribute or edit material and this is used by most internet users. However, as the site is restored again, the users can breathe a sigh of relief!
