Twitter brought down by DoS attack

twitter fail whale Microblogging platform Twitter experienced one of it’s longest outages since commencement today with the service still offline almost two hours after its initial crash.

Those attempting to log-in to the microblogging platforms website received nothing more than a server not available response from about 6am PDT (1pm UTC).

Users of Twitter supporting applications had mixed success with the popular TweetDeck failing to update at all, while Seesmic Desktop users were still able to send and receive tweets.

A message on the Twitter status site said the company was defending a Denial of Service (DoS) attack and gave no estimation on how long the site would be down for.

Tens of thousands of people around the world use Twitter to exchange information concerning their work and leisure activities with friends and colleagues.

At this stage it is not known how long the site will be down for, or from where the DoS attack is originating.
