London, July 11 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A new survey has revealed that meal time manners have slipped drastically. Earlier people used to eat food together as a family and discuss how their day went. But now with the advent of laptops, smartphones and other electronic devices, family members might still be eating together but mentally they aren’t together. They are engrossed in their laptops, finishing work/checking emails or on their phones – texting or even making calls.

The study was carried out by Birmingham Food Fest and it studied the mealtime habits of 2000 adults. And the results are startling, to say the least!

At least 10% of the surveyed adults worked on their laptops while eating while 13% of them thought that it was okay for their children to bring their toys onto the dinner table.

Emma Gray, who is the spokesman for Birmingham Food Fest, said that, “Food is an important part of family life and dining together is a great way to spend quality time with loved ones, which should be an enjoyable experience for all. With family meal times becoming more and more rare, people should be making the most of the time they do have together – without the distractions of magazines, laptops and mobiles.”
