Nov. 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Tuesday evening saw a large number of T-Mobile users experiencing problems with the data and voice services. T-Mobile said that it was dealing with the problem of the widespread outage, which was expected to be resolved soon. The users posted their problems on various websites alongside Twitter. The mobile carrier said that at around 9.00 PM ET, 5% of the users were experiencing problems, which had started earlier, at around 5.30 PM. The company recorded a total of 33.5 million users at 2nd quarters end. Accordingly, 1.68 million users are deduced to be effected by this outage (5% of 33.5 million).
A spokesperson gave out an official statement saying, “We’re making good progress restoring voice and messaging service to affected customers.” He also said that their “rapid response team”, was working to resolve the problem continuously and apologized for the “inconvenience caused to the customers”. T-mobile is ranked 4th in the US market and is a unit of DT or ‘Deutsche Telekom AG’. T-mobile had recently come up with new schemes regarding their prices, to increase their customer base.
T-Mobile’s Sidekick service underwent an outage last month itself, which made some of the carrier’s users lose their personal information like the contacts and calendar entries. This was followed by a halt in the sales of the service and Microsoft admitting that there was a server failure in the subsidiary that runs the Sidekick. Microsoft also said that they had restored most of the data lost by the users, but the users did not agree with the fact. The whole issue has made people criticize the service and the Tuesday mishap made the company’s position even unstable.
