Android-based phones and Apple increased their dominance in the industry. Combined, the two companies control more than 70 percent of all smartphones in the United States. The figure is up from the previous survey which was carried out in July. The latest figures reveal that 71 percent of all smartphones in the United States are Android and Apple.
The study also found that 44 percent of all the mobile subscribers in the United States use a smartphone. Competition from other manufacturers is almost non-existent with the exception of Research in Motion (makers of the Blackberry).
Although the company saw its share of the market go down by 3 percent compared to the previous quarter, RIM still has 17 percent share of the smartphone market in the United States.
